The Best Places To Watch The Sunset In Busan

You know what I love most, apart from exploring a country and immersing myself in its culture? It’s watching the sunset, wherever I am in the world, and it’s even become a tradition for me whenever I land in an unknown destination. Nothing beats ending a day with the colorful, relaxing red and orange hues of the sun as a backdrop. So if, like me, you love beautiful sunsets, here’s my list of the 9 best spots to admire them in Busan!

Save it for later!

When is the best time to see the sunset?

Since I love this time of day, I’d rather wait for it than miss it, which is why I recommend heading to your favorite spot for the golden hour (about 1 hour before sunset), because not only will you most of the time have the place to yourself, but it’s also a nice way to explore the area or have a little picnic before the sky starts to adorn itself in stunning, vibrant shades of gold, red or orange.

Where to see the sunset in Busan

1. Dadaepo Beach/ Morundae Trail (다대포해수욕장)

Address: Dadae-dong, Saha-gu
How to get there: take the subway (line 1, orange) to the last stop (Dadaepo Beach) and walk 4mn.

Let’s start this journey with my all-time favorite spot: Dadaepo Beach. What more does a girl need besides a nice beach, the sound of waves crashing on the shore and scenery like this? Well, nothing else if you ask me.

The beauty of the place, the peaceful atmosphere and long stretch of sand make this beach magical, to say the least.

Plus, Dadaepo Beach is magnificent whatever the season, especially in autumn thanks to the reed fields that surrounds it. And while you’re here, don’t forget to walk the Morundae trail, located right next to the beach, to enjoy the view of the peninsula’s coastline, not to mention that it’s the ideal place to see the sunset!

2. Hwangnyeongsan (황령산)

Address: Yeonsan 5-dong, Yeonje-gu
How to get there: you can start your hike at the Busan Town Hall station (시청역) and hike (~1.5hr one-way) to Hwangnyeongsan OR take the Yeonje-gu1 bus to Mulmangol (15 stops) and hike (45mn).

Did I ever tell you that Busan offers some of the best viewpoints in Korea? No, well now you know!

Although I have to admit that it’s not the easiest place to get to if you don’t have a car, the trouble and sweat are well worth it, believe me!

With views like these, you won’t be surprised to learn that Hwangnyeongsan is a hot date spot too! Well, no one can blame the lovey-dovey couples, right?

And while the quiet, picturesque mountain is perfect for watching the sun set over the city, you should stay until the night falls to see breathtaking views of the illuminated coastal city below.

3. Songdo Cloud Trails (송도구름산책로)

Sun setting between skyscrapers in Busan

Address: Amnam-dong, Seo-gu
How to get there: from Busan station, take bus 26 for 21mn, get off at Amnam-dong Community Center and walk for 10 minutes.

The sun setting behind the mountains and between the skyscrapers, reflected in the dazzling sea: this is what awaits you if you decide to head to Songdo Beach. And since Koreans love bridges over the ocean, you’ll also find one here: Songdo Cloud Trails (or Skywalk). Walk over the sea and watch the sun slowly disappear from your range of vision.

Want to see the sunset from a higher, less crowded place? Follow the trail from Songdo Beach to Amnam Park, and if you’re not afraid of heights, consider taking the marine cable car down right before sunset > one way: between 13,000 KRW ($9) and 17,000 KRW (~$12): depending on the type of cabin chosen.

4. Yongdusan Park (용두산공원)

Statue and Diamond Tower in Yongdusan Park in Busan

Address: 37-55, Yongdusan-gil, Jung-gu
How to get there: 15-minute walk from Nampo station (line 1, orange).

Because you can’t really go to Busan and miss one of it’s symbols: the Diamond Tower. But also and above all because Yongdusan Park is actually the perfect place to watch the sunset while being in the best neighborhood (at least for me), when it comes to some of the best restaurants, street food market and shopping!

5. Hwamyeong Ecological Park (화명생태공원)

Sun setting in Hwamyeong Park

Address: 1718-17 Hwamyeong-dong, Buk-gu
How to get there: 10-minute walk from Hwamyeong station (green line).
Opening hours: 06:00-21:00 every day

What makes this park so special is, of course, its landscape, tranquility, its views of the Nakdonggang River at sunset and the fact that it’s the smallest in the region. And you know what that means, don’t you? Who says small, also says uncrowded spot that you’ll instantly fall in love with.

And if you’re visiting Korea in autumn, it’s also one of the best parks in Busan to see the fall foliage while having a nice picnic in the shade of one of the tall pine trees.

Traveling in summer? Hwamyeong Ecological Park will greet you with its bright and beautiful fields of roses and lotus flowers!

6. Uam-dong Urban Forest (우암동도시숲)

Address: 6, Donghang-ro 106beon-gil, Nam-gu
How to get there: from Jigegol station (green line), it’s a 30-minute walk.

Uam-dong Urban Forest is such an underrated place in Busan that I feel it deserves to be highlighted in this post. And not just because the “La La Land” small park boasts unbeatable views of the city at night, but also because its panoramic sunset and the fact that only locals seem to really know about this hidden gem will guarantee you a splendid evening out.

And for an even more perfect night, take some chimaek (chicken and beer) uphill with you to savor while waiting for the sun to set Busan’s sky ablaze with its shimmering colors.

7. Gamcheon Culture Village (감천문화마을)

Sunset over Gamcheon Culture Village in Busan

Address: 203 Gamnae 2-ro, Saha-gu
How to get there: from Jagalchi station (line 1, orange), take exit 1, walk 6mn, hop on the Saha-gu1-1 bus at Chungmu market for 11 stops and get off at Gamcheon Culture Village.

I know this a very popular spot in Busan, and for good reason! The pretty rainbow houses and labyrinthine alleyways will take you on a unique scavenger hunt to discover hidden works of art.

And although I’m not one for crowded places, I have to confess that the special charm of Gamcheon Culture Village makes me forget the line of people waiting to take their photo with the Little Prince statue and keeps me coming back.

Oh, and let’s not forget why we’re here: the sunset, because yes, the village is, in fact, one of the best locations to enjoy the moment just before sundown.

8. Dongbaekseom (동백섬)

Sun setting from Dongbaekseom island

Address: 710-1 Udon, Haeundae-gu
How to get there: 21-minute walk from Dongbaek station (line 2, green).

Blending modernity and tradition, Dongbaekseom Island is the ideal place if you like to be surrounded by nature and the ocean. Admire the sunset over the sparkling sea, smell the camellias in winter (Busan’s symbolic flower) or visit the famous and aesthetic Nurimaru APEC house.

9. Haeundae Green Railway Blueline Park (해운대 그린레일웨이)

Address: 13 Dalmaji-gil 62beon-gil, Haeundae-gu
How to get there: you can take the subway (line 2, green) and stop at Jungdong station.

The coastal walk is already beautiful, offering breathtaking ocean views in a peaceful setting, but wait until sunset time and you’ll see why Blueline Park quickly became one of my favorite spots in Busan.

If you want to have an even better sunset experience, I highly recommend hopping on the Sky Capsule, 40,000KRW ($28) for 2 people. Don’t forget to book your tickets in advance, though, as they tend to sell out pretty quickly!
