Here’s a quick guide to this peaceful place, located just 15 minutes by public transport from the airport.

Save it for later!

Xinsheng Park Area of Taipei Expo Park in a few words

Located in the Zhongshan District, where you can find museums, beautiful temples and delicious night markets, Xinsheng Park Area of Taipei Expo Park actually flies under the radar of the majority of travelers visiting Taipei. And while the park may not seem like a must-see, I beg to differ, especially if you’re in the area and have a few spare hours before your flight.

Because just 10 minutes by car and 15 minutes by bus from one of the city’s airports, Songshan Airport, wandering through the 20-hectare park and its gardens filled with fragrant flowers, watching the planes fly overhead or getting lost in its maze is, in fact, the ideal relaxing experience you need before tackling the boring airport procedures.

Without further ado, here are its highlights!

Highlights of Xinsheng Park Area of Taipei Expo Park

1. Taipei Rose Garden

If you’re arriving by public transport and getting off at Yuanshan, this is probably the first place you’ll enter. Surrounded by a large number of roses of all kinds, you’ll quickly be seduced by the delicate charm and fragrance of these thousands of elegant flowers.

And the good thing is that whatever the time of year, you’ll always find them here, but if, of course, you want to be awed by the atmosphere and colors, you’ll have to come in spring (March) for the Taipei Rose Festival, but bear in mind that Xinsheng Park might not be so peaceful then.

2. Garden Maze

Want to have some fun and find your way through a maze? Then, the Garden Maze is the place to be. And for those of you who think it might be a dangerous place where you lose track of time, get lost and miss your flight, don’t worry as that won’t happen here.

The maze, made of low hedges, will prevent you from getting lost, and is more there to give you a good time without the headache. It’s also the perfect activity if you’re traveling with kids: watch them have a game of hide and seek between the hedges or simply goof around.

Not to mention that it’s a great place to snap some great shots of the planes flying overhead as you make your way through the garden.

3. Taipei Collectible Botanical Garden

Opening hours: 09:00-17:00 Tuesday to Sunday (Closed on Mondays)
Entrance fee: free

Couldn’t get enough of the beautiful flowers in Taipei Rose Garden? Head to Taipei Collectible Botanical Garden, located right in Xinsheng Park, and feast your eyes on the sumptuous tropical, alpine and other plants found in the building.

And if, like me, you’re not a botanist, the lush landscape and atmosphere make it an agreeable respite from the heat, especially in summer, where you can enjoy the air conditioning to your heart’s content.

4. Lin An Tai Historical House and Museum

Opening hours: 09:00-17:00 Tuesday to Sunday (Closed on Mondays)
Entrance fee: free

Only a minute’s walk from Xinsheng Park lies the beautiful and tranquil Lin An Tai Historical House and Museum, one of Taipei’s most iconic and picturesque old houses. Built by the Lin family (originally from Anxi County of Fujian Province) 200 years ago, the red bricks, pond and traditional architecture make the house a unique place to visit.

Designed with feng shui in mind, the well-preserved building and its refined carvings as well as sculptures will transport you back in time!

And for the more sporty types, the park also boasts a few recreation facilities, such as a basketball court, a playground… A park with something for everyone, I guess.

From Taipei Main Station, you have two options if you choose to go by public transport:

Take the Tamsui-Xinyi Line (red) towards Beitou for 4 stops and get off at Yuanshan (6mn). You’ll then need to walk about 15 minutes to reach the park.

By bus

From Taipei Main Station (Zhengzhou), take bus 260 or 218 towards Beitou for 5 stops and get off at Tatung University (10mn). The park is only a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.

If you plan to stay in Taiwan for more than a few days, I strongly recommend buying an EasyCard, which you can top up as you go.

Now you know where to go if you don’t want to spend hours waiting for your flight, or if you just want a quiet place away from the hustle and bustle of Taiwan’s capital!
