Why stay at Bonne Nuit Terracina?
Even though I’m a solo traveler at heart, I sometimes travel with friends, especially when I go back to Europe. However, as my friends and I are all budget travelers, finding an affordable room for two isn’t always easy.
But that’s exactly what we found at Bonne Nuit Terracina, where rooms cost between €67 and €77 per night (or ~€34 per person per night, which is a real bargain in Europe, where accommodations aren’t usually budget-friendly).
Anyway, for that price, you get a large queen-size bed, air conditioning, a TV, free refillable water, as well as coffee and tea: all, right in the heart of the historic town.
In short, it’s the ideal place to stay for anyone looking for a peaceful and charming getaway in a lovely city.

Location
Located in the province of Latina, just an hour by train from Rome, Bonne Nuit Terracina is the perfect place to stay if you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the Italian capital and its crowded streets to relax in a coastal town that you can explore on foot and where the “dolce vita” truly comes to life.

And even though people tend to prefer the Amalfi Coast or Cinque Terre, Terracina proves that you don’t have to venture too far from a major city to enjoy some seaside tourism enhanced by beautiful ruins.
Vibe
If you enjoy strolling through cobblestone streets and immersing yourself in Roman history at every turn, but also want to sunbathe on the beach with a view of an ancient temple perched on a cliff, then you can’t go wrong here.
Far from the major tourist attractions and steeped in a more local atmosphere, the city of Terracina is actually divided in two (or even three distinct areas). First, the medieval upper town featuring ancient ruins, cathedral and breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian shore. Next, the lower part of town, which is more modern and bustling with shops. And finally, the long stretch of sandy beach with shallow waters, perfect for taking a break after all that walking and exploring.
To top it all off, the accommodation itself is located in the quietest part of town (the historic part), which guarantees a magical and restful stay just a stone’s throw from the most famous attractions of the town.
The place may not be very big (with only five rooms), but that’s precisely what contributes to the tranquility of the place and makes your stay particularly relaxing.
What are the rooms like?
At Bonne Nuit Terracina, you’ll find only private rooms equipped with a private bathroom and either a balcony or a private kitchen, depending on the room you choose.
Rooms are clean, simple, yet cozy, and come equipped with free toiletries, a bidet, a TV, Wi-Fi, and air conditioning.
They’re also spacious enough to accommodate two or three people, and the common area is always quiet, but has everything you need to make coffee and tea (if your room doesn’t have a kitchen), as well as a free water dispenser.
Service
It’s worth noting that Bonne Nuit Terracina is more like a guesthouse than a hotel: where you’ll meet the owner at check-in and check-out. That said, the welcome was more than friendly and warm, despite the language barrier, and everythings was carefully explained to us.
Plus, if you need information or wish to contact your host, you just have to send them a message; they usually answer very quickly, which we really appreciated.
Note: as is the cases in many places in Italy, a city tax is charged here, amounting to €1.50 per person per night.
Where to eat in Terracina

Here are a few places worth your taste buds, just a few minutes from the accommodation in Terracina!
Sunrise Wine & Food Bisteccheria: our favorite address during our stay, so much so that we ate here twice in three days. The pastas, ravioli, burrata, and desserts were simply delicious.
Santi Quattro Bistrot: the vibe and cuisine live up to the beautiful, colorful plates. Tucked away in the old town on a quiet alley, it’s the perfect spot for a romantic or tranquil dinner.
ATTURA’S: for a delicious Roman-style pizza. Choose your favorite flavor from all the slices available!
Things to do around Terracina
If you’re visiting Terracina, you absolutely must explore and get lost in its many narrow alleys, but here are a few of my favorite things to do in the historic part of town.
Duomo di San Cesareo (Terracina Cathedral): standing on the ruins of an ancient Roman temple, the cathedral was rebuilt while preserving some of the ancient structures.
Teatro Romano di Terracina: a recently restored amphitheater, which once could seat thousands of spectators, now hosts cultural events and festivals.
Piazza Santa Domitilla: a great spot to watch the sunset and a quiet, little corner to take a break and watch the city’s cats.
Overview
While planning our week in Italy, I ended up choosing Terracina because I knew the busy city of Rome would eventually overwhelm me at some point. The coastal atmosphere, along with its ancient ruins, proof of an ancient civilization, not to mention, its calm and serene part, ended up being one of my best memories of the trip.
And to make this relaxing getaway perfect, we naturally had to choose an accommodation with a similar vibe. It was a success, as Bonne Nuit Terracina offered us a cozy and welcoming place to stay, outside from the bustling main street in a peaceful corner of this magnificent historic town.
So, if you’re looking for an affordable accommodation in the heart of a charming little town, where you can enjoy a restful stay and delicious restaurants, look no further than Bonne Nuit Terracina!
