Located in the province of Lào Cai, Sa Pa is a mountain town home to many ethnic minorities. Getting there may not be easy if you’re afraid of narrow, winding roads, but if you want to discover another side of Vietnam, you might be tempted to spend a few days (or more) there.
To get from Laos to Vietnam, you can either fly or cross the land border, which is what I did.After completing the necessary administrative formalities in Vientiane, I was more than ready to take the bus to Vietnam. Little did I know that the experience would be interesting, to say the least.
The first country I visited in South-East Asia, Laos remains an unforgettable memory and the one that opened my heart and eyes to another world. Ten days is of course never enough time to discover a country, but it does give you time to visit certain parts of Laos.
When I first went to Southeast Asia on a whim, I had only briefly browsed articles about the countries I was planning to visit. Nothing could have prepared me for what I experienced. A completely different world was opening up to me and, with it, a few culture shocks.
